“Two Matches” is actually a sequel to a track on his last album between the two titled “Matches”. It goes without saying that Solo delivers on this one and Sounwave gets the drums and trumpets out for another great collaboration. It’s not a Mac Miller album without a feature from frequent collaborator Ab-Soul. In the kitchen whipping biscuits, giving generously We was in the attic you could smell the weedīitches kissing bitches just like Ellen D Vinny Radio has a few words for us on the outro.
A nice shout out to Jackie Chan & Chris Tucker, but the songs refers to all the drugs Mac is on that makes him feel like he can’t stop to forget about his problems, and instead, embraces all the good things. There’s some great disc scratching on the hook, which we don’t get enough of today. The bass goes hard on this one and you could feel Mac flexin throughout the track. “Rush Hour” is another track with great production from ID Labs, albeit different from the previous track. Got no idea what I’m contemplating, I guess… I’m a white rapper, they always call me shady The outro to the song is great with some heavy piano playing and a saxophone solo. All these other rappers are representing a brand of sorts. Mac is a self made man, starting from the bottom, but made it independently. Mac switches the flow up in the 2nd verse and gets that machine gun flow going on. ID Labs production is perfect for Mac’s effortless flow with some choir-ish singing going on in the background. “Brand Name”is the official first track of the album, and I liked the alarm clock going off at the beginning signaling Mac to get to it. Someone told me this track included a jab at Eminem, but clearly he didn’t understand the lyrics. This 1 minute 18 second track is a decent intro to the album. “Doors” represent opportunities, which sometimes will close on you. A very smooth beat which Mac sings over moves away from the depressing tone of his sophomore album. The beat by Tyler, The Creator marks a stylistic change for Mac. The intro track entitled “Doors” is not at all what I expected. For his third album, Mac has signed a BIG deal with Warner Bros., so let’s find out if a big label backing him changes things at all.
In fact, his debut album “Blue Slide Park” was the first album to enter the top 10 of the Billboard 100 since the “Dogg Pound” did back in 1995. What makes them special is that they were released independently, which is hard to do in this day and age. His last two albums “Blue Slide Park” and “Watching Movies With The Sound Off” were praised by critics and fans alike. He has a collection of mixtapes that are great and are focused toward his hardcore fans.
He doesn’t shy away from that at all, and if you’ve listened to any of his work, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. He’s an acquired taste in my opinion and most of his rap is very drug infused. Not too many Jewish rappers in the game (I still can’t wrap my head around Drake being Jewish). I would think Mac Miller is a name known to most.
